Mortgage and security professionals across the UK are being urged to take part in the 2026 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Views Survey before it closes on Friday 29 May, with industry leaders warning that the research can only lead to meaningful change if it reflects the widest possible range of views.
The survey, conducted by the Mortgage Action Initiative, will provide a vital benchmark to measure how the industry has evolved over the past five years – and strong participation from across the market is essential if the results are to carry real weight.
Commenting on the Mortgage Brokers Association CEO Stephanie Sharman He said:
“One of the most powerful messages from an ED&I perspective for 2021 was that many people in our industry were experiencing things that their colleagues and leaders did not see or fully understand. This research started important conversations and, in many cases, led to real action.”
“Five years on, we now have a real opportunity to understand what has changed, where progress has been made, and where challenges remain. But this will only work if enough people get involved.
“This survey is not targeted to a specific group, and it’s not just for people who have strong feelings about ED&I. It’s for everyone in the mortgage and security industry because each perspective helps build a more accurate, balanced, and informative picture of our industry today.”
“Whether you are a broker, lender, business owner, administrator, BDM, underwriter, senior leader or just starting out in your career, this is your opportunity to contribute. If people leave this behind because they think it doesn’t apply to them, we risk ending up with an incomplete picture and missing out on meaningful, lasting progress.”
Imla Vice President and Head of Mortgage Business Nicola Goldie added:
“Working in Mortgage was created to help make this industry a better place to build a career, and a strong vision is an important part of that process.
“The findings from this research will help inform future conversations and practical actions around recruitment, progression, workplace culture and talent retention across the sector.
“We know there is a tremendous amount of goodwill in this industry, but goodwill alone is not enough. We need a clear, representative vision that reflects the reality of working in today’s marketplace.
“There is still time to participate, but the survey will close in eight days. The stronger the participation, the more valuable and credible the results will be for the entire industry.”
